Hospital Dedication

     The Jackson F. Doe Memorial Regional Referral Hospital was dedicated by President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf Feb. 12, 2011.The modern hospital is named in honor of the late educator and politician.
     The $10-million-dollar facility will provide quality health services to the people of southeast Liberia. The hospital is a gift from the People's Republic of China (PRC) and Ambassador Zhou Yuxioa has promised that China will continue to support it. Twenty-five medical personnel have undergone intensive training in the PRC.
     In addition to the highly-trained staff, the 206-bed hospital also has up-to-date equipment including the first CT scan in Liberia.

     Dr. Francis Nah Kateh is a native Liberian, born in Karlokeh, Maryland County. He studied at the University of Liberia for three years before obtaining a scholarship through the United Methodist Church to MacMurray College, Jacksonville, Illinois, USA, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in biology.
     He furthered his studies at Spartan University School of Health Sciences, Vieux Fort, St. Lucia, and graduated with

a Doctor of Medicine degree. After practicing during the civil crisis in Liberia, he returned to the United States and obtained a Master of Health Administration at Governors State University, University Park, Illinois. He accepted a position as director of a county health department in North Carolina, during which time he also earned a degree in Homeland Security with an emphasis in Public Health Disaster Preparedness at the University of Connecticut.
     In 2010, Dr. Kateh resigned his position and returned to his homeland to begin the challenging job of staffing and equiping the new hospital.
